I learned to be a yoga teacher at both the Bihar School of Yoga in India, which practices Satyananda Yoga and through a 200-RYT yoga teacher training program with Susi Amendola at the Yoga Now center in Omaha, which is rooted in her teachings at the Himalayan Institute and emphasizes a focus on relaxation and meditation instead of challenging physical poses. 

I continue to try and carry on the wisdom of my teachers by providing a safe, accessible, and holistic practice for all bodies. My classes are prop heavy, without too many strenuous poses, and I personally do a lot of work in the fat liberation and body acceptance movement, which applies in my classes as well (fat/large bodies are welcome and loved!). I also attempt to include what I know about the Ayurvedic seasons, changing poses to align with these seasons and Doshas, incorporating pranayama, the yamas and niyamas, chanting, mantras, bandhas, and occasional yoga nidra, among other things. 

Overall, I decided to call my classes Intuitive Yoga because I subscribe to Intuitive Living and Eating principles and strive to make my classes a body/fat positive, accessible space, where you are the expert on your own body and can explore your own relationship with yoga and intuitive movement, while we explore together what feels right on that day, in that season, and for what we are feeling.
